Recently, the coalition led by Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google. The suit accuses Google of unfairly leveraging monopoly power and authority in its ad tech business.
According to the attorney general, Facebook had effectively baited google into making the deal. Based on this, Google denied the claims, and Facebook on the other hand was not readily available for at least one comment.
The suit accused google of striking a deal with Facebook to stop it from getting header bidding and affording FB privileges in advertising auctions on its platform. Header bidding is for publishers (websites and apps) to sell ad space online.
Header bidding allows multiple advertisers to bid on the same bit of ad space simultaneously with the publisher taking the highest bidder’s offer and placing its ad. This is an alternative to the Google ad placement system that provides auctions in a sequence.
